50 Years of Columbus – and a System That Changes Everything
A personal insight by Ruth Koppenberger
When you grow up in a carpentry business – as I did – you quickly learn what really matters in craftsmanship: reliability, clear application, and the awareness that every decision about materials and processes has a financial impact.
My father was a master carpenter in the third generation. In 1976, he founded Columbus and laid the foundation for what we are today. I joined the company in 1991 and have been managing director since 1996. Over the years, I’ve worked with businesses all over Europe, built up our international sales network, developed machinery – and most importantly, I’ve listened closely:
What do our users truly need?
Columbus 360° is built on three interconnected pillars:
Our vacuum presses are manufactured in Austria, ISO-certified, low-maintenance, and come with a lifetime warranty – across all models. The real innovation lies in the patented modular system of our PIONEER series, which allows the machine to be expanded as needed. This gives our customers investment security and flexibility, allowing the technology to grow with the business. (learn more)
Knowledge is just as important as technology. That’s why we’ve digitally structured our 50 years of practical experience into the Master Manual. It provides clear, practice-oriented information on materials, processes, and common errors – helping users avoid costly mistakes. This saves time, materials, and frustration right from the start. (learn more)
The power of Columbus 360° lies in the interplay of its components.
The combination of high-quality machinery, accessible knowledge, and intelligent assistance ensures that users don’t have to learn through trial and error – but can produce with confidence from day one. (learn more)
As a developer, I’ve always focused on real-world benefits. I don’t think in terms of machines – I think in solutions for daily operations. Or as I like to say:
“I develop with the heart of a craftswoman – because only then do solutions arise that not only work, but truly help.”
Warm regards,

What do our users truly need?
The answer: a system, not just a machine.
On the occasion of Columbus’ 50th anniversary, it became clear to me: we need more than technology. We need a comprehensive system that doesn’t just run – it thinks. That’s why I initiated and co-developed Columbus 360° in 2025 – a concept that combines technology, expertise, and digital support in one integrated solution.
Columbus 360° is built on three interconnected pillars:
1. The Vacuum Press – A Core with Vision
(learn more)
2. The Master Manual – Knowledge from Five Decades
(learn more)
3. Master GPT – Real-Time Digital Support
The third pillar is our digital assistant: Master GPT, pre-installed on a tablet that comes with the system. Available directly at the machine, it provides real-time answers to questions about operation, materials, or process optimization – 24/7 and in any language. This eliminates time-consuming searches, trial-and-error, or support delays. (learn more)
