Flexstone manufactures large boat parts with the special machine "Infinity"
At Columbus, we don't just build “machines”. Above all, we build real and sustainable solutions for the daily, real challenges of our customers. From the beginning, the focus has been on the benefit for the user, because one thing is clear: the challenges do not depend on the machine - it is the other way around. And so we saw it again with pride as our task to offer a Columbus customer the ideal solution. Because this is exactly what we have stood for with our expert knowledge for over 45 years.
Columbus customer, Flexstone, manufactures houseboats in the company's own shipyard in Germany using genuine German craftsmanship. Flexstone needed an individual solution that would allow them to produce layer-glued workpieces with the dimensions of an entire boat length quickly and, above all, in one whole piece. Up until now, Flexstone was dependent on a supplier company and was therefore dependent on delivery times and external quality standards. With our own special solution, this is now a thing of the past.
Upon request, the designers who are responsible for the manufacture of Columbus special solutions developed a vacuum press with a usable length of approx. 10 m and a width of 3.5 m. It is not only the largest vacuum press in the history of Columbus, the newly developed system is also groundbreaking, because it allows the particularly large special solution to be produced at relatively very affordable prices. An advantage that Columbus passes on directly to its customers.
Since the vacuum table is divided into different suction zones, its effective usable area can be constructed in any length. The membrane is wound onto a reel and is manually unrolled onto the table surface using a linear slide. In this way, it is very easy to load the press and also to remove the workpiece after pressing with a crane, if necessary. This allows workpieces to be produced in all required lengths in one piece.
As mentioned at the beginning, Columbus develops solutions for challenges that often amount to the impossible. The individual solution development for Flexstone is another example that Columbus is not deterred from breaking new ground and thinking beyond borders. If you too are faced with unresolved tasks in your daily business, we are happy to be there for you with our application expertise and 40 years of experience.
We wish Flexstone many successful projects and thank them for their trust!
