Students from the Freie Waldorfschule Mainz create truly unique items using vacuum technology
"Every child is unique with its individual aptitudes and abilities, with its own life motives and goals" – these are the opening words and an essential part of the credo of the Freie Waldorfschule Mainz. Based on this principle, the school attaches particular importance to the free development of the students.
A wonderful credo, in our opinion, because Columbus states a similar motto in the foundations of its corporate philosophy: We are convinced that every craftsman and every craftswoman and every project is unique. To put it in the words of Ruth Koppenberger:
"The possibilities of a project should only be limited by the imagination of the creator."
For this reason, for more than 45 years, Columbus has been offering the technology that makes this a reality.
From the 9th grade, in the upper grades, in the Freie Waldorfschule Mainz, as in all Waldorf schools, various subjects are taught in practical artistic lessons epoch-by-epoch. One of them is carpentry. And due to the fact, that vacuum technology offers almost limitless possibilities in its areas of application in carpentry, many students use the Vacuflex vacuum bag to realize their projects.
This year the topic in the 12th grade carpentry lesson was "Bend the bow". With this impulse, the students should develop products that take up the topic in the broadest sense. Some students used the Vacuflex vacuum bag to create truly beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces by the means of laminated bending. Other students twisted the wafer-thin veneer into shape. The Freie Waldorfschule Mainz sent us some pictures of the creations that we show on this blog. We are excited.
In the Freie Waldorfschule Mainz, students in the 11th grade also spend a year working on a self-chosen topic in their annual work. One student made a special lamp. The entire process was documented, from the first draft to final assembly, and finally presented to an audience of around 120 people.
The creations of the students of the Freie Waldorschule Mainz are once again a prime example of the limitless possibilities and the simple applicability - even without carpentry training - of vacuum technology. Thank you very much for sharing the story. We wish you all the best for future projects!
